PdL MP defends Berlusconi for comparing plight to WWII Jews

(see related) (ANSA) – Rome, November 6 – An MP from Silvio Berlusconi’s People of Freedom (PdL) party on Wednesday defended the former premier as “justified” for saying his children feel like the Jews under Hitler’s regime for the amount of alleged judicial persecution their father is facing. The remarks, which were excerpted from a previewed interview in a forthcoming book, immediately elicited scorn from the center-left Democratic Party (PD), traditional foes-turned-allies of Berlusconi’s center-right PdL. “The reaction from the PD to a simple (expression) of Berlusconi’s state of mind is not only exaggerated and specious, but betrays an incredible doggedness on the part of the left,” said Luca d’Alessandro, secretary of the House justice committee.
