Media-ICT building of the year

The complex Media-ICT of Barcelona won the award “Building of the year” at the fourth edition of World Architecture Festival 2011. The festival was held in the days between 2 and 4 November in the Catalan city, and this is the first time that the prize is not attributed to a project abroad. The Media-ICT is designed by Cloud 9 and covers a total area of 16,000 square meters which give hospitality to several offices, a multimedia Museum, some laboratory space and a conference room.

These spaces are added other 7,200 square feet underground, in which resides a 200 car parking spaces. The outer envelope of the structure is the most distinctive element of the whole complex and is functional to the objective of reducing energy waste and harmful emissions at the same time is also very particular from an aesthetic point of view. The inflatable bearings make up the exterior facade which during the summer months work in practice as a sunscreen that protects from the Sun, while in winter they can open for capturing energy. The neighborhood where the building is proposed as the new media and Culture Center relies very complex Media-ICT for better representation.
