Letta calls on Libyan authorities to patrol coasts
(ANSA) – Rome, October 21 – Italian Premier Enrico Letta on Monday called on Libyan authorities to assume responsibility for patrolling their coasts and preventing the embarkation of precarious boats dangerously crammed with migrants seeking European shores. “We will work until the Libyan coast is patrolled. But we will never again accept insufficient or half-responses from Libyan authorities. For us the patrol of the seas means going there and make it so that the Libyan authorities assume their responsibilities,” said Letta after meeting in Rome with Greek Prime Minister Antonis Samaras.
