Italy has widest gap between men, women in unpaid work

Italy has widest gap between men, women in unpaid work (ANSA) – Paris, November 6 – Italy has one of the widest gaps between men and women in terms of unpaid hours worked among industrialized nations, the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) said in a report Wednesday. Data from the OECD last updated in 2010 found that Italian women worked almost 21 more hours week without pay than did men.

This is the widest gender gap among the 34 countries measured by the OECD for differences between men and women in the distribution of unpaid work, ahead of France (12.6 hours); the UK (12.2 hours), the US (9.5 hours) and Germany (6.6 hours).

The report says the inequities “can have negative effects on the well-being of women”.
