Gela man arrested for stabbing wife 10 times

(ANSA) – Gela (Caltanissetta), October 10 – A man was arrested after he stabbed his wife, who was in the process of separating from her husband, ten times before leaving her for dead in the Southern Italian city of Gela on the island of Sicily.

Sandro Signorelli, 49, almost killed his 40-year old wife, Angela Biundo, di 40 anni, in a bloodied attack which saw him thrash at her ten times with a small knife, slashing her in ten different places on her body.

The man fled the crime scene a storage unit containing beverages that belonged to the father of the woman in via Trinacria, in the Western Gela neighbourhood of Marchitello. He drove his car in a panic to the nearby city of Licata, where he turned himself in. The mother of the victim, who was present during the frenzied attack, independently called the police and an ambulance after the man fled. Emergency medical personnel who first assisted the woman had to remove the knife that was still lodged in Biundo’s body.

The woman is currently hospitalized in the surgery division of a nearby hospital where doctors say that despite the wounds on her head, chest, stomach and legs, they are confident she will make it. The former couple have two daughters, aged 17 and 13, that live with the mother.
