Chinese sweatshop producing for high-end labels uncovered (ANSA) – Milan, December 6 – Carabinieri police in the northern town of Vigevano near Pavia on Friday discovered a Chinese factory in which workers reportedly made shoes for high-end labels. Police found some 20 Chinese nationals working and living in two separate buildings in very poor hygienic conditions and sleeping surrounded by highly inflammable liquids.

Police said an unspecified number of children lived in the buildings, including infants.

Two Italian and two Chinese nationals have been reportedly placed under investigation.

Over the weekend a blaze at an illegal Chinese garment factory in Prato, near Florence, killed seven people.

On Thursday police in Prato arrested 11 Italian and Chinese nationals for alleged ties to fraudulent immigration practices in the area.
